Microbiology Laboratory Technician

What You Will Be Doing Aseptically prepare all incoming samples for testing. Maintain proper record keeping for media preparation, the autoclaves, pH and conductivity. Using the top load balance, weigh samples to obtain correct and accurate weights. Proactively assist Technicians in the performance of Microbiological tests. Daily, check and record temperature of all refrigerators, freezers, and water baths in the Microbiology department. Daily, verify and record calibration of the top load balance used to weigh samples. Perform other duties as assigned by Management such as; E.coli 0157 and 24 hour Salmonella testing. Performs microbiology testing in a timely fashion maintaining a high level of quality. Performs preliminary sample preparation. Participates in analytical work in other areas of the Microbiology Department. Reports results for tests. Aseptically performs sampling, plating, and testing of product daily. Submits accurate and timely reports based on the analysis. Identifies and communicates results that require further investigation or discussion with Department Manager/Supervisor. Assists in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies. This will include recording temperatures and maintenance of equipment and instruments. Learns new techniques and technologies as appropriate. Works effectively with other departments. Maintains a clean and orderly environment. Performs other duties as required. What you Need for This Position BS degree, preferably in Biology/Microbiology or related sciences. Entry level position. Laboratory experience in microbiology is desirable. Good conceptual basis in biology. Proven ability to perform basic microbiology laboratory techniques. Excellent organizational skills. Strong relevant qualitative and quantitative skills. Computer literacy. Manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish colors. Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
