escription: Strategic Planning Director Location: New York, New York   Position Summary: commonground wants a Strategic Planning Director who can apply bedrock planning knowledge skills, provide insight into strategy, and offer up impactful strategic thinking to creative, account teams, and clients. A superstar who is a proactive, fresh, strategic, and dynamic thinker who can contribute to a leading, fast growing, integrated marketing agency.  We are looking for someone who is energized by multicultural consumer marketing and thought leadership, as the work is urban-lifestyle focused.  This is a high visibility role within the agency working on the leading mobile/technology brand in the country. Key Responsibilities: Lead day-to day strategy contact for the client account and from time to time serve in similar role for new business/initiatives that require strategic planning knowledge and insight. Drive information gathering and filtering, providing valuable business and customer insight regarding trends, behavioral shifts, attitudinal dynamics of the clients’ marketplace to appropriate account management, creative and media departments as well as the client. Lead both qualitative and quantitative research efforts (project management, presentation of results, etc.) of behalf of the client.  Embrace the numbers and be able to tell the strategic story from the data. Work with Strategic Planning & Research team to provide consumer insight integration that can be applied to both the total market & multicultural market. Integrate with the Strategic Planning & Account Management teams to build out commonground’s multicultural expertise. The Personality: Develop and persuasively communicate the brand/positioning - story portions of communications plans or other recommendations to agency and client. Deliver upon overall timeframes and deliverable milestones for strategy and research projects and related components, etc. to deliver according to client/staff expectations. Demonstrate good listening skills, fostering an environment of professional commitment and mutual trust. Communicate upstream and downstream in a manner that is timely, respectful, productive and supports commonground and the project goals, as well as with clients in a manner that is timely, informative, and succinct. Operate as a collaborative, team player engendering respect, trust and dependability. The Position: Integrate strategic planning insight and knowledge into the creative brief development process, client planning process and overall client business. Provide insight on current trends, barriers, etc. impacting purchase of client products and services. Analyze, strategize, and assist in the development of marketing plans and positioning papers as it relates to the category, business and client needs. Work with key internal agency team counterparts to identify new opportunities and drive “wins” on the client’s business. Showcase expertise in managing up and down the team structure, across the agency and client team. Expertise in operating in an extremely fast-paced environment and consistently delivering success. Measures of Accountability: Agency meetings reveal no problems with client relationships and activities. Client is making satisfactory progress toward achievement of their Marketing objectives, specifically in the multicultural space, and they credit the agency for its contributions. Quality of the strategy work and its integration into the overall delivery of strategic planning work produced for clients by all departments. Qualifications: 8-10 years of Advertising agency experience Deep experience in and examples of business strategy, brand planning, positioning, working with strong creative teams, and developing junior planners. Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college required. Work experience, including fieldwork or internships in advertising either in creative work, quantitative research or qualitative research and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Communication:  Ability to read, analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources, such as trade journals, research reports, white papers and cross-tabulated survey data.  Ability to draft research reports, presentations, white papers and general business correspondence.  Ability to effectively support presentation of research results to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Reasoning:  Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts and draw valid conclusions based upon information furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
