Pulp Mill Team Leader
/> Please note: This position is located in the state of Washington. Relocation package being offered. Job Purpose: This job is responsible for the management of pulp mill operations including but not limited to: safety, environmental compliance, shift production, quality and maintenance coordination for the power recovery area (industrial and sanitary wastewater treatment, boiler water treatment, power and recovery boilers, turbine generators, evaporators and air & water systems) or fiberline area (Kamyrs, Sunds, cooker, recaust and hot water systems). This also includes coordination of activities across the pulp mill ensuring full integration and alignment to support strategic goals. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Develop and implement policies and procedures that support continuous safety and operating improvement Lead and ensure the department is educated on all safety guidelines and measures Coordinate activities with other team leaders and pulp mill support to ensure the manufacture of desired pulp in both quality and quantity necessary to meet requirements of all paper machines for all shifts Partner with optimization, pulp and paper operations leaders to troubleshoot and solve complex operating issues and provide long-term, cost effective solutions while maintaining quality and appropriate use of energy Oversee department maintenance planning activities and assist area superintendents in the review, justification and validation of capital project work Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement processes for continuous improvement of cost, quality, energy use and other key initiatives to support the business strategy. Develop plans and work with cross-functional teams to meet demands of shutdown processes and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently while maintaining production and environmental goals Develop and review department maintenance budget, operating costs and productivity levels and approve expenditures ensuring costs are managed within guidelines and objectives Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science) or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum 5 years recovery boiler experience and/or dual vessel hydraulic digesters preferred Minimum 5 years supervisory experience required (pulping production management preferred) Commitment to safety and environment Strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision making skills Strong organizational skills; ability to use discretion, prioritize, maintain attention to detail and recognize time constraints Proficient in Microsoft Office and enterprise management programs Leadership and Management: Manage up to 10 salaried supervisory personnel providing leadership, vision, performance management, recruiting, training, mentoring and disciplinary action. Provide indirect managerial support for up to 80 hourly personnel. Lead the pulp area in safety both by example and by effectively communicating commitment to a culture of safety. Compensation: Strong base salary plus bonus and benefits. Relocation assistance will also be provided.
