Practitioner role describes an advanced practice nurse generalist who is well prepared to deal with commonly occurring problems encountered in patients at the point of contact within the health care delivery system and the continued care of said patients in the cardiac setting. The continued care is two-dimensional: the identification, management and/or referral of health problems; and the maintenance of the patient's health when symptomatic illness is not apparent, by means of preventive and health promotion interventions based upon the practitioner's knowledge.
