This is a full-time on-site position based at our corporate headquarters in New Hyde Park, New York. Position Objective: The Program Specialist is given drug specific benefits to investigate, in relation to the Company's manufacturer contracts and special programs. The Company's primary clients are physicians and patients; accordingly, the Program Specialist acts as an advisor by assisting the physician in evaluating initial referrals and ensuring clinical guidelines are met. The Program Specialist determines billing channels, verifies patient's benefits, verifies payer authorization requirements, and follows up with payers/specialty pharmacy providers to verify that the claim/prescription is approved, processed/paid. Essential Functions: • Serves as primary contact for receiving phone calls. • Documents and meticulously makes notations in each patient's profile regarding every update and aspect of a customer's/physician's care or needs. • Uses discretion and independent judgment in handling customer complaints received, while documenting and forwarding to appropriate administrative staff. • Ensures the seamless transfers of prescriptions when needed, and performs related follow-up. • Follows up with prescriptions transferred to contracted specialty pharmacies. • Follows up with prescriptions transferred to specialty pharmacies when requested by the physician. • Updates doctors' offices regarding the status of the prescription and documents all contact, as well as information received. • Communicates with the Department Supervisor and other Specialists regarding any information received from the physician, insurance company or employees about the customer's care or needs. • Must exhibit excellent skills in the following areas: verbal/written communication, computer/data entry/software proficiency, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, self- discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Pharmacy Technician Certification, preferred, but not required. • 1-3 years' pharmacy technician experience, required (retail or specialty setting, preferred). • Superior level of customer service as well as understanding the department operations. • Highly effective in working objectively with a diverse group of people and must demonstrate communication, organizational, administrative and office skills. • Proficient in data entry, verbal skills, computer skills and the ability to learn the department's software system. • Must be a team player willing to accept and promote organizational goals and function with minimal supervision. • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, or senior management. • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical solutions. • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. • Maintain HIPAA patient confidentiality. Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary, based upon an applicant's experience, educational background, and the interview process.
